What is Ninja Warrior
Ninja Warrior began as a Japanese television show called Sasuke in 1997, where athletes and everyday people attempted to conquer incredibly challenging obstacle courses. Its popularity quickly spread internationally, inspiring localized versions such as American Ninja Warrior and sparking a global movement around the sport. Known for its demanding combination of agility, strength, endurance, and mental focus, Ninja Warrior has grown into a competitive sport with leagues and events across the world.
Obstacle courses are tailored to different difficulty levels based on the age and gender of participants. Each course typically features 10 to 13 obstacles, which athletes must successfully navigate to hit the final buzzer. For every obstacle completed, participants earn a point, adding to their overall score. Time limits and constraints are set to encourage strategic thinking and push athletes to maximize their points. Every course is unique, offering a variety of fun, creative, and challenging obstacles. Participants can expect a dynamic mix of balance, upper body strength, momentum, and technical challenges throughout the course.
The impact of Ninja Warrior goes beyond entertainment—it has created a unique fitness culture that encourages both individual growth and community support. Participants develop a range of physical skills, including balance, coordination, and strength, while also gaining confidence, problem-solving abilities, and resilience. The sport fosters a sense of achievement as athletes push past their limits in a supportive environment, making it a fun and rewarding way to stay active.
What is the CNL
The Canadian Ninja League (CNL) was established to unite and grow the Ninja Warrior community in Canada, providing a structured platform for athletes of all ages and skill levels to compete. Since its founding, the CNL has played a key role in developing the sport nationally, organizing regional and national competitions and offering athletes the chance to showcase their abilities on a larger stage. With the sport's growing popularity, the CNL has become a hub for fostering talent and promoting inclusivity in Ninja Warrior competitions. Its continued growth offers exciting prospects, including more opportunities for Canadians to compete internationally, while creating a strong and supportive community centered around fitness, resilience, and fun.
Why Choose Comp Team
The Squamish Ninja Gym Competitive Team will be the first of its kind in the Sea-to-Sky corridor, building on the region’s rich legacy of world-class talent in rock climbing, mountain biking, skiing, and trail running. By introducing a competitive ninja team, we aim to expand the community's athletic horizons and push the boundaries of what's possible. Ninja Warrior combines the best of these sports—grip strength from climbing, tenacity and coordination from mountain biking, leg power and aerial skills from skiing, and endurance from running—into a unique, high-performance skillset.
Success in Ninja Warrior comes from blending physical abilities with strategic thinking and intuition. Athletes will face back-to-back obstacles where being aggressive, fast, and explosive can pay off, but also introduces the risk of failure. Our team will foster a culture of challenging personal limits in a fun, supportive environment, encouraging athletes to unlock their full potential.
