Shaun
Stephens-Whale
Director of Operations
Shaun brings a diverse athletic background, having competed internationally in obstacle course racing, mountain running, and tower running. His achievements include Spartan National Champion, CN Tower Runner record holder, and Canadian Long Course Mountain Running Champion. These accomplishments reflect his deep understanding of what it takes to perform at the highest level of competition. In 2019, Shaun co-directed the inaugural Ninja competition in Squamish, providing tools and knowledge that he brings to The Ninja Gym.
In addition to his athletic endeavors, Shaun holds degrees in Civil Engineering and Astrophysics and served as a wildland firefighter with BC Wildfire Services. With strong ties to the Squamish community and a passion for running, mountain biking, and climbing, Shaun has made the town’s rugged terrain the ideal backdrop for both his professional and personal pursuits.
Luis Alarcon
Office Manager
Luis has had a love for sports ever since he was a little kid, doing any kind of sports he could and always looking to improve on his skills, while learning from his mistakes. He also worked previously in similar fitness facilities that involve working with children and adults. Learning from it, he became more conscious and aware that every person is different, and everybody has their own way to learn and improve in whichever their goal is.
Prior to working with The Ninja Gym, Luis used to be a weight coach for 3 years as an extra activity in which he learned how to help people develop their muscles, doing programs and routines for the participants that were interested, and learning how to help people achieve their goals successfully. Luis has a degree in Business Administration, with certifications from HS&E (Health, Safety and Environment) and a certification with the Canadian Red Cross as ‘Standard First Aid Blended”. He also worked as the manager for the previous owner of The Ninja Gym, bringing the operational experience that is needed.
Emma McRae
HR & Finance Manager
​Emma McRae is a dynamic force in her community, seamlessly balancing her roles as a devoted mom of two, a stepmom, and hockey chauffeur. With a deep-rooted love for her community, Emma has made significant contributions both at The Whistler Fireplace Company and The Ninja Gym.
At The Whistler Fireplace Company, Emma excels as the meticulous Operations Manager, ensuring the smooth running of the business and its commitment to excellence. However, her personal and heartfelt project is The Ninja Gym—a venture she holds dear for its impact on the youth of Squamish.
The Ninja Gym represents Emma's dedication to creating a nurturing environment where kids and teens can build lasting friendships, engage in physical activity, and receive positive encouragement. With a strong belief in the power of community and personal growth, Emma’s vision for The Ninja Gym is to foster a safe, supportive space where young people can thrive both physically and emotionally.
Emma’s hands-on approach and genuine passion for helping others make her an invaluable asset to her community. Through her work at The Whistler Fireplace Company and The Ninja Gym, Emma is committed to enriching the lives of those around her, ensuring Squamish remains a vibrant, connected, and thriving community for all.
Rich McRae
Facility Manager
Richard McRae is a dedicated serial entrepreneur deeply embedded in the heart of the Squamish community. With a proven track record of successful ventures, Rich is most well known for The Whistler Fireplace Company, where he serves as both founder and operator. His passion for innovation and community development shines through in every aspect of his work, driven by a desire to make Squamish a thriving, vibrant place for all its residents.
Richard's entrepreneurial spirit is matched only by his commitment to his family. He is a proud father of three, each with their own unique interests—one is a dedicated mountain biker, another a talented hockey player, and his youngest is a cherished princess. This dynamic family life fuels his drive to contribute positively to the community he loves.
Beyond his professional achievements, Richard's deep roots in Squamish are reflected in his active involvement in local initiatives. His vision for The Ninja Gym goes beyond business; it's about fostering a sense of community and enhancing the quality of life in Squamish. With a blend of innovation, dedication, and heartfelt commitment, Richard continues to leave an indelible mark on his community, making Squamish a better place for generations to come.
Khaneya Womack
Program Manager
Khaneya Womack brings a unique blend of creativity, psychological insight, and athletic expertise, with 12 years of experience in parkour and ninja warrior training. Holding degrees in Design and Psychology, Khaneya possesses a deep understanding of human movement, coaching, and development. Khaneya's expertise extends beyond the gym, informing his work as an education assistant for the school district.
As a seasoned coach, he has led teams to success as Head Coach and Assistant Manager at Airhouse and Ninja Gym and served as a role model for children in the Squamish community.
With a passion for highlining, rock climbing, and snowboarding, Khaneya has made the Squamish terrain his playground, both professionally and personally. His infectious enthusiasm and dedication to his students make him a beloved figure in the community. Khaneya’s holistic approach to movement and development empowers individuals to unlock their full potential, fostering growth and confidence that transcends the ninja course.
Oscar Alarcon
Allocation Manager
Oscar is one of the owners of The Ninja Gym, where fitness meets fun! With a lifelong passion for movement, from playing and coaching professional soccer to training in Ninja athletics and martial arts, Oscar has always believed that working out doesn’t have to feel like a chore. That’s why he has put so much effort into creating this space for people of all ages and skill levels to challenge themselves, conquer obstacles, and discover the joy of movement.
Since moving to Squamish in 2017, Oscar has been inspired by the active, adventurous community here and excited to offer a gym experience that brings out the inner Ninja in everyone. Whether you're looking to improve your strength and agility or just have a blast beating the courses, The Ninja Gym is all about pushing boundaries in a supportive, fun-filled environment.
When Oscar is not at the gym, you can usually find him hiking, mountain biking, or spending time with his family. He lives here in Squamish with his wonderful wife and his newborn and is always up for a challenge—on the course or in the wild!
